SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PAINTING:
Devi Kateelamma is a very significant and worshipped Goddess of the Land of Tulunadu.
The deity in the Sanctum of the Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple is actually an Udbhav Linga which stands on an islet at the centre of the river Nandini.

Symbolically a linga that is touched by the waters of the sacred river Nandini or we could say that the river Nandini has the blessing of washing the feet of Devi Durgaparameshwari who manifested and took form of a Linga here.
What you see when you visit the temple is the beautiful alankar of the Devi roopa or feminine form which is Shakti that pervades the entire universe.
